Community Highlights: Meet Jesse Diaz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Diaz.

Hi Jesse, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thank you for having me! My name is Jesse Diaz and I am an entrepreneur. I’ve worn a lot of hats in my life: paralegal, public adjuster, student, entrepreneur, husband, dad. But at my core, I’ve always been someone who believes in people and the power of community.
For nearly a decade, I worked behind the scenes in law firms, helping families fight for what was rightfully theirs after experiencing property damage. I was there for the late-night calls, the frustrated clients, the insurance battles. I saw firsthand how broken the system could be and I knew I could do more. That’s what led me to start my own firm, Claim Coach, a public adjusting company built on trust, advocacy, and truly caring for people. But I’ll be honest, life wasn’t all business. Like many, I struggled with my health, with stress, with balance. And that’s when pickleball showed up.

It started as a casual game with friends. But it quickly became therapy. It was the one space where people of all backgrounds, ages, and skill levels came together for movement, laughter, and connection. I fell in love with it, not just the sport, but what it represented. It was community in motion.

That spark led me to start Handz Pickleball Co., a brand that reflects my roots, my culture, and my belief that everyone deserves access to quality gear and the joy of the game. From paddle design to vending machines, to sponsoring up-and-coming Latino athletes, I was all in. Through Handz and through my work in the pickleball scene, I was able to play a part in shaping community efforts around facilities like Texas Pickle Hall. I helped bring people together, organize events, and create an environment where the mission “Where Courts Create Community” could really come alive.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

Building something meaningful always comes with challenges. What matters is how you respond to them. One of the biggest obstacles I’ve faced was helping to shape pickleball opportunities in San Antonio without a roadmap. Facilities like Texas Pickle Hall were new concepts for the city, and being involved in the early phases meant navigating construction hurdles, timelines, and community expectations. There were moments of doubt, moments where it felt like everything was working against me.

But I’ve learned that obstacles are just opportunities dressed in work clothes. I leaned into my faith, my family, and the people around me. Every delay taught me patience. Every setback made me sharper.

I also had to battle internal challenges, like imposter syndrome and the pressure to “get it right.” But I’ve come to believe that perfection isn’t the goal progress and purpose are. Looking back, I’m grateful for the challenges. They shaped my perspective and deepened my commitment. And they made the eventual wins that much sweeter.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
This journey hasn’t been easy. There’ve been delays, financial hurdles, moments of doubt. But every time I see a child pick up a paddle for the first time, or a senior smile because they’ve made new friends, or a player find purpose in the game it reminds me why I keep showing up.
My wife Sarah and our two beautiful kids are my anchor through it all. They remind me that legacy isn’t just what you build, it’s how you love and serve along the way. My greatest fulfillment comes from helping people grow, connect, and believe in themselves again.

For me, pickleball is not just about the sport, it’s about belonging. It’s about creating spaces where a beginner can walk in scared and walk out with a smile. Where strangers become teammates. Where families bond, and friendships are made. At the end of the day, we all want to feel like we matter. If I can continue to create opportunities through my ventures, through Handz Pickleball, and through supporting the growth of the game, then I’m doing something right.

If there’s one message, I’d share with anyone reading this, it’s this: Start scared. Start unsure. Just start. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just must believe in what you’re building and keep putting one foot in front of the other. San Antonio is home. And I’m honored to be part of shaping something that gives back to the city that’s given me so much.
We’re just getting started.
