Rising Stars: Meet Dream Place of San Antonio, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dream Place.

Dream Place

Hi Dream, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Dream Place started in 2017 when current singer and rhythm guitarist Candy attended the San Antonio Girls Rock Camp (SAGRC) where she met the band’s first lead guitarist Bella. At the time, the group was an all-girls band, but due to varying skill levels and differences in creative direction, Candy and Bella decided to continue the project with two new bandmates: Danny and Carlos. Danny is Candy’s younger brother who had been tinkering around with piano before being lasso’d into the band as the bassist. He wasn’t terribly eager at first, but after Bella introduced Carlos as the drummer to the group, the instant friendship and powerful musical chemistry smoothed out any doubts anyone may have had. The group wrote several original songs, and went on to perform at many major events in San Antonio, such as, Oyster Bake, the San Antonio Rock n’ Roll Marathon, a few Battle of the Bands showcases, an unofficial SXSW showcase in the heart of Austin, amongst other events. Dream Place also worked with local youth music programs, such as, Network for Young Artists (NYA) and High Voltage Youth Music Program, besides the SAGRC. At ages 15 and 16 the group landed a prime-time spot in KSAT’s morning segment ‘SA Live’, and a couple local university radio interviews featuring live in-studio performances. As the band members aged around 18 years old, however, differences in creative direction and desire for young adult independence began creating tension within the band. Towards the end of 2022, that iteration of the band split. Using the fresh start of the new year to her advantage, Candy took initiative and reignited her musical connection with her brother (Dream Place’s bassist) Danny. To round out the group, Danny knew exactly who to reach out to: Steven and Eyan. The two were old musician friends of Danny’s from NYA who had attempted forming a side project together, but Dream Place had taken priority at the time. They were eager to join the group and add their unique sounds into the Dream Place mix. The two quickly acclimated, and the group was well on their way to crafting that special mix of alternative rock sounds that Dream Place would continue to produce. Despite still being a high school Junior, Candy’s sister Kylie was quickly drafted into the group onto the keyboard. The official lineup for Dream Place in 2025 had officially kicked off with five eager members. Candy’s strong belief in the band drew her to acquiring a band manager, which took just under a few days. Isabella Stowers couldn’t have been the more perfect candidate for Dream Place. Isabella had recently graduated from university, with a BA in Creative Media Industries and a BA in Public Relations & Strategic Communications Management, besides having prior artist management experience. To top things off, she is a passionate musician herself! Recently, the band has been balancing building a fan base in San Antonio, TX by performing at local house shows, music venues, contributing to the local music scene, and working with various creatives to bring the members’ ideas to life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the new 2025 iteration of Dream Place, some obstacles so far have been the arbitrary emotional struggles that life tends to lease out. Fortunately, once the band unites for weekly band practice, the unmatched musical energy tends to heal all that is broken… plus eating dinner together as a group, and playing video games together is super fun! Getting our music recorded is also an issue since every audio engineer produces music differently, so finding someone who can effectively record our sound and master it the way we wish to convey it to listeners is one of the most stressful things about being in the band. However, where there is a will, there is a way! Coordinating with local photographers for every show, or for stationary photoshoots, can also be a little frustrating. Modern Dream Place has only been together for about three months now, so we are really off to a great start, but nonetheless the road is kinda bumpy since trying to bring up a professional alternative rock band includes so many working hands and not just solely the band members themselves. The Band Leader, Candy, and Band Manager, Isabella, are the main coordinators and relations management of the band, but even with two people things have proved that there is so much work to be done! Even Candy’s (and Danny’s and Kylie’s) parents and friends contribute to the band as roadies and merch managers. But, this is the fun part! Working with local artists and businesses is the fun part; finding audio engineers is the fun part; being in a band is the fun part! We don’t let much stress bite through our tough skin, despite all the work this project takes. We are highly passionate about our craft, and about uniting people through our music, so we’ll be accepting further challenges.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Dream Place is a crew of close friends blending raw emotion and sonic grit, with groovy basslines, thunderous drums, visceral vocals, driving electric keys, and headrush-inducing guitar work. The band effortlessly weaves moody textures with more light-hearted ones to round out a niche alternative rock sound. We are fueled by the collective passion of unrestricted, unlimited possibility in creating fun music, and exhilarating performances, for the people we care about. I, Candy, am personally so proud to be a member of Dream Place because the sheer spirit this band has is unbelievable. Dream Place may be its own monster, but I think listeners who enjoy acts such as No Doubt, Cage the Elephant, and the Strokes, or movies like Scott Pilgrim vs the World, would easily fall in love with Dream Place too!
