Meet Rubi Rocha of Six Thirty Shop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rubi Rocha.

Hi Rubi, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hi, I’m Rubi, and I started my boutique back in 2022. As a teenager, I was in a car accident that left me paralyzed. During my recovery, shopping became a way I was able to cope-to escape, feel normal, and reconnect with myself. I realized that even though I was now navigating life in a wheelchair, I was still me I still loved fashion, getting dressed up, and feeling good in what I wore.

Whenever I went out, people would stop me to ask where I got my outfits. That’s when it clicked: I could turn my love for shopping into a boutique so people can shop my closet in a way. That’s how my online boutique was born. I wanted to create a space where people no matter their situation could find trendy, affordable pieces that make them feel confident and seen.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning a boutique is tough—honestly, owning any small business is a 24/7 job. It’s nonstop, and there’s always something that needs to be done. Now add being in a wheelchair on top of that, and it definitely brings extra challenges.

One of the hardest parts lately has been finding new customers. There are so many boutiques popping up, and it is more competitive than ever. For me, in-person markets is a great way to get exposure, but I can’t attend most of them. I need help setting up, and with my spinal cord injury, I can’t regulate my body temperature. The Texas heat makes it hard for me to be outside long without overheating.

It’s frustrating because I want to be out there, meeting people and sharing my passion, but sometimes my body just says no. Still, I do what I can, when I can and I pour that energy into making sure my boutique reflects my style, my story, and the strength it takes to keep going.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Six Thirty Shop?
Six Thirty Shop is all about affordable style that makes you feel good. I specialize in tarnish-free jewelry, trendy hair accessories, and everyday clothing pieces that won’t break the bank. What sets me apart is that I keep my prices low without sacrificing quality I want my customers to know they’re getting stylish, long-lasting pieces at the best possible value.

One thing I’m most proud of is how much of a family effort my business truly is. My parents and sister are a huge part of Six Thirty. Every month, my mom and dad help set up my booth at the Helotes Market. My dad ships out my online orders, and my mom is so friendly and great with customers she often sells for me when I can’t attend in person. My sister not only helps at markets, but she’s also my model. I’m so grateful for them Six Thirty Shop wouldn’t exist without their support.

The name Six Thirty actually comes from my story: “six” represents the six people in my family, and “thirty” is the age I was when I started this journey.

You can find me online under @sixthirtyshop—on TikTok Lives, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc. I pour a lot of love into this brand, and I hope people see that in everything I do.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The quality that’s been most important to my success is resilience. Being in a wheelchair, running a business, and facing constant challenges both physical and emotional takes a lot of inner strength. There have been so many moments where it would’ve been easier to give up, especially on hard days, but I kept pushing forward.

I also think being resourceful has helped me a lot. I’ve had to find creative ways to connect with customers, grow my brand online, and work around limitations that most boutique owners don’t face. I’ve learned how to adapt, ask for help when I need it, and still show up with passion for what I do.

And at the heart of it all, I truly believe in being real. I don’t pretend to have it all figured out. I share my story, stay honest with my customers, and I think people connect with that.
