Today we’d like to introduce you to Randy Leyva.
Hi Randy , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I originally started my business in Ft Worth TX in spring of 2001 I had a studio there and maintained one there and then moved to Dallas TX and had a studio in Deep Ellum. I became a free lance photographer doing mostly events and live concerts. That branched into corporate branding and social media working with auto dealerships doing video and headshots for their websites and custom walk around videos for clients who inquired about new or used car inventory each 1 min clip a detailed guide of the car with music and voiceover detailing the car of choice. There was and is a niche market then as well as now for marketing on social media being my main job was a manager in a large family owned car dealership and my career had spanned almost 40 years it was time to move into a fulltime studio and run my photography business. During covid my wife and I moved to San Antonio and I started or I should say restarted my business. My main focus is corporate photography which includes branding, corporate headshots and website coverage of business. I also do custom graduation photos as well. I have a great rating on Google 4.9 also on various platforms I advertise on Groupon, Yelp all positive. My strength is my ability to capture people and bring out their personality and reflect it in the image naturally. I provide full service edits and location photography working with large law firms, Medical groups, Musicians and record labels for music videos and live concerts filming at Sam’s Burger Joint. The Rock Box, Saxxon Pub in Austin to name a few. And Currently working on a documentary of a band here locally from concept, practice and recording their new EP I believe my work reflects my passion and showcases my clients look and and style.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No it has not been especially in the last 7-10 years since smart phones and social media platforms have dominated the landscape and images can be manipulated to look and be its best creative look, it means everyone can now be their own studio which includes photography, video, edits, graphic design. It’s no longer a craft or skilled individual behind the lens. I believe it’s blurred the lines between amateur and professional and certainly has driven down the cost or I should say pricing of projects because people are simply looking for the cheapest way to get what they need. I never want the art of photography to be lost on edit or manipulation of an image.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My secret sauce is my personality the majority of my clients will tell you I make them laugh, I engage them and make them feel comfortable. Most people dislike having their photos taken so putting them at ease and keeping them relaxed is key. Most of my work is corporate work and specialty events, concerts, branding so keeping a Doctor or Lawyer or Musical artist in their natural environment and getting the best out of them is an art and it shows in the image. I have had the pleasure of working and maintaining ongoing and new relationships the Sewell Cadillac Of San Antonio I have been their official photographer for their annual Santa Claus Photo and corporate photographer for the last 3 years, Steele Auto Group website and headshots, Sports Medicine Associates ongoing for their corporate headshots and RHC Law Firm all special clients but most proud of working with and shooting concert work of Marc Anthony, Everclear, Fuel, All American Rejects, 38 Special, The Smithereens, Trashy Annie, Texas Flood to name a few and live TV work and producer of Texas Seen TV. I am not afraid to find a way to bring a clients vision and deliver it regardless of the budget. I can deliver a 500.00 project and make it look like a 5000.00 high end television commercial, or magazine quality layout which as a published photographer with many magazine covers to my credit I know how to bring every vision to fruition.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Just a kid who loved to play baseball in Southern California year round and my parents facilitated that going to Major league games are my best memories. You can’t beat having playing baseball in the sun with friends and teammates.
