Community Highlights: Meet Mildred Lopez of Hispano Seguros

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mildred Lopez.

Hi Mildred, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Paracotos, Miranda State, Venezuela. When I moved to the United States, it marked the beginning of a new passion in my life: Life Insurance, which led me to become an independent entrepreneur.

After eight years of residency in the United States, I have managed to build a successful career in the insurance industry. Currently, I hold the position of President at InVida Latino. Furthermore, I founded my own company, Hispano Seguro LLC, which has given me the opportunity to provide the quality service that our Hispanic community deserves.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it certainly hasn’t been an easy path. The main obstacle I encountered centered around the cultural gap. American insurance companies are still in the process of fully understanding the healthcare culture of the Hispanic community. There are still significant barriers, deeply ingrained myths, and traditional beliefs that make it challenging for both communities to effectively connect and build trust. This often requires a nuanced and culturally sensitive approach to communication and education, which hasn’t always been consistently implemented.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Hispano Seguros?

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I remember when I was 10 years old, I was about to start the next grade in school. I told my father I didn’t want to keep on studying at the same school that I was and that I wanted to go to a different town and a bigger school. That dad told me he was willing to take me but that he will be stay in the car, to which I agreed.

We arrived to the place, my dad stayed in the car and I went inside. I was only 10 years old, but I was able to talk to everyone that I needed to talk to and begin my pre-enrolment process.

The fact that my dad showed me with a simple action of support how much he trusted me and encouraged me to be a independent from such a young age, made me realize the great father I had and that I can do whatever I set my mind to.
