Rising Stars: Meet Joshua Cortez of South Side, San Antonio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Cortez.

Hi Joshua, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always wanted to make some type of content growing up, whether It was gaming or vlogging. I first started making content on Twitch and YouTube during quarantine mostly streaming video games. I then transitioned to video game playthroughs and uploading them on YouTube under the channel name of Hoswae. After I turned 21, about 7 months later in June of 2024, I then again changed the content I wanted to make, going a more mature route. I started making reviews on THC products in and around my community, with the hopes of uplifting and changing the stigma surrounding THC and Hemp in Texas, going by the name, Sesh With Swae. The names “Hoswae” and “Swae” come from my name Joshua, which in Spanish is, Josue (Ho-sway).

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far it has been pretty smooth for me, I have met so many good people in the booming industry of THC/Hemp. If anything, the only thing that has been in the way is the two bills that have been proposed, HB28 and SB3, aiming to limit or outright ban the plant. But I have faith in Texas as we have put on a good fight!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I make reviews and give my opinion on different THC products and different brands such as Bay Smokes and Cookies and local brands like Mr. Texan and Danny Boys Hemp. I want to spread the quality products out to my viewers and help them stay away from the bad products that are harming people and making the industry look bad. I feel like I am known as the “youtuber” amongst the community I am involved with as I have introduced my brand to many of the local shops in my area. I feel like what I am most proud of is the fact that I have started from the bottom with my channel and have grown naturally within my community, even though I am currently still a small channel, I have big hopes for expanding that even further. I know the space I am in is rapidly growing as new creators pop up every day, I want to be more varied when it comes to my content, I plan on making more gaming/playthrough content on my 2nd channel and also want to do a more vlog-style approach to my reviews to keep my viewers interested.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The biggest thing I have learned so far is to stay consistent when it comes to content making, I currently try to stay at a video a week to keep up with work and my daily life. But I plan on upgrading that to two a week to expand my channel and bring in more people to watch and enjoy the content that I make.
