

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tayla Russell.
Hi Tayla, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve known my entire life that I wanted to be a dietitian.
As long as I can remember I would collect these little nutrition handouts I would get at school and I distinctly remember being fascinated with the food guide pyramid in 4th grade.
In fact, it was my mom who pointed out to me that I should be a dietitian because I always cared so much about food and what I was eating.
It wasn’t until I got into college and was studying to become a dietitian that I became more confused than ever about food and nutrition. I had gained the freshmen 15 (well more like freshmen 30) and found myself attempting to lose weight but had no clue how to even get started.
I tried fad diet after fad diet and was constantly over-exercising and restricting myself. I couldn’t figure out why I was studying nutrition and I just couldn’t get a grasp on my own nutrition.
It was then when I discovered flexible dieting and my entire world was flipped upside down. I was no longer starving 24/7. I wasn’t beating myself up over a missed workout. I was able to enjoy all of my favorite foods while still losing weight!
Losing weight was a nice byproduct but the ultimate success in my book was the ability to mend my relationship with food, I no longer had body dysmorphia, and I felt completely in control of my future.
After graduating college I worked in corporate wellness and absolutely loved my time in the corporate world but I knew I wanted to do more personal training. I my corporate job to work at a private gym as a weight loss coach and personal trainer for 3 years. Once Covid hit I was able to move my business entirely online and now my clientele is all over the world!
To think that over 2 decades ago I was collecting nutrition handouts from school to now having helped thousands of men and women lose weight and reclaim their lives. I am incredibly blessed to be doing what I love and what I know I was put on earth to do.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I started seeing my clients I had a limited space to a small town in northern Utah. Having the confidence to take my business online and creating content for social media has been the most intimidating part of all. Even though I was a coach for over 5 years before going online I still had major imposter syndrome!
I have quickly learned that most people have similar struggles with weight loss, whether you live in Utah or all the way in Australia!
Being able to broaden my reach has been so rewarding and something I didn’t even know was a possibility for me. I am so glad I didn’t listen to the many people who told me I couldn’t do it.

Dietitian Tayla, LLC is a weight loss consulting business that offers weight loss coaching through 1:1 support and a group coaching program, Flexible Dieting Academy.
We specialize in teaching individuals how to lose weight and keep it off through flexible dieting. We are launching a new maintenance support group for all of our weight loss “graduates” to stay connected and motivated while maintaining their weight loss.
And our weight loss group coaching program: Flexible Dieting Academy is launching again in the fall for another cohort!
