Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Weiss.
Hi Natalie , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been on my fitness journey for the last 5 or so years of my life, and I started doing mat pilates about 3 years ago. I quickly fell in love with the low-impact and effective workouts, because they helped me reach my fitness goals so I couldn’t help but rave to friends about how great it is. Since my background is in E-commerce, I work from home and am on my computer for most of the day. It seemed like I was never getting out of the house, and I started to feel lonely. I always loved having a fun event to look forward to and meeting new friends. After covid, I feel like myself, and a lot of others were missing that sense of community and belonging. Starting our club was an idea I had only about two months ago, and I had no idea it would start growing so quickly, I just knew I wanted to put myself out there in my community and connect with other like-minded women. Turns out, I wasn’t the only one thinking that same thing, because very quickly after that our club started to grow! Women from all over San Antonio, new to the city or having been here a while, were coming to our events excited to mix and mingle! I wanted the club to be more than just events and fitness classes, I wanted women to feel like this is THEIR club and community where they can connect with others and be a part of something really unique and genuine. It’s been so much fun making so many new friends and working with local businesses and vendors in San Antonio. I really want to keep growing and bring that sense of community back to those who crave it the most.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part, it has been exciting and smooth sailing. Of course, with anything, there can always be obstacles along the way. For Hot Girls Fitness Club, we have been growing quickly on our social pages, but I noticed that women would leave comments about being nervous to try new things or sometimes feeling intimidated stepping out of their comfort zone.
Trying new things can be hard if you’re not sure what to expect. Those women who expressed this to me at events but still showed up anyway, ended up saying how glad they were that they did! I knew I had to find a way to overcome this obstacle, so I made it a point to mention how welcoming and supportive our community of women really is! I replied back to as many comments as I could saying exactly that, and at the beginning and end of events I make it known how proud everyone should be of themselves for taking a chance and stepping out of their comfort zone.
Starting a girls-only fitness club and community was important to me because I craved a space that was women-only where I could feel safe to open up and surround myself with women from all walks of life.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My background is in E-commerce, I own a clothing company called Hot and Thready where I sell sweaters, shirts, and ‘baby tee shirts. I enjoy being creative digitally and creating fun designs! I also love to document my life through videos and photos. After all, we won’t be here forever. That’s why I really try to savor each moment and romanticize my life when I can.
I’ve helped lots of local businesses with their marketing and social media, and it was fun to help them grow and get to know so many creative people in San Antonio.
Originally, I studied biology in college and was on the path to becoming a physician. I soon realized, however, that I wanted to go a more entrepreneurial route and find creative outlets, Being creative in lots of different ways has satiated me as a person, so I followed that and ended up starting Hot Girls Fitness Club.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
You know, the name Hot Girls Fitness Club, itself, matters to me. And no, it’s not about looking physically attractive. “Hot Girl” Is a state of mind, a mentality. Fitness helped me build my confidence and completely transform my mindset about life, myself, and other things.
That’s why I really feel called to help other women with their mindset and confidence as well. If you have confidence and a great mental attitude, you can overcome anything life throws your way. Giving women the opportunity to start their fitness journey and a sense of belonging, has been doing exactly that. Together, we’re stronger, especially during a time when a lot of women are feeling scared, alone, and unsure about what is to come.
My goal through this club is to establish a strong network of women who support each other and want to grow together. In this way, no matter what happens or what the world throws at us, we won’t be taking it on alone.
