Hi Lisa Bella, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey into the world of makeup began during my late teenage years. I was always fascinated by the way makeup could transform a person’s appearance and boost their confidence. It all started with experimenting on myself, trying out different looks and techniques, and soon I was helping friends with their makeup for special occasions. This hobby quickly turned into a passion, and I knew I wanted to pursue it professionally.
Training and Education
Living in San Antonio, Texas, I was fortunate to have access to several beauty schools and workshops. I enrolled in a local cosmetology school where I honed my skills in makeup artistry. I learned about color theory, skin types, and the latest trends in the beauty industry. The hands-on experience and mentorship from skilled instructors were invaluable in shaping my career.
Venturing into Spray Tanning
While studying makeup, I discovered spray tanning and was intrigued by its ability to provide a natural-looking tan without the harmful effects of UV exposure. I decided to expand my skill set by taking courses specifically focused on spray tanning. Understanding the nuances of different skin tones and mastering the application technique took time, but I loved the challenge.
After completing my training, I decided to start my own business in San Antonio. I began by offering makeup and spray tanning services to friends and family, relying on word-of-mouth and social media to build my clientele. I set up a small studio in my home, ensuring it was a comfortable and welcoming space for my clients.
Overcoming Challenges
Starting a business was not without its challenges. I had to learn about marketing, client management, and financial planning, all while perfecting my craft. However, my passion for beauty and dedication to my clients kept me motivated. I attended beauty expos and workshops regularly to stay updated on industry trends and to network with other professionals.
Establishing a Clientele
Over time, my reputation for providing quality makeup and spray tanning services grew. I focused on building strong relationships with my clients by understanding their needs and preferences. My personalized approach and attention to detail helped me gain loyal clients who often referred me to their friends and family.
Expanding My Services
As my business grew, I expanded my services to include bridal makeup, special event looks, and mobile spray tanning. This allowed me to reach a broader audience and cater to clients who preferred the convenience of in-home services. I also started offering makeup workshops, sharing my knowledge and passion with aspiring makeup artists.
Reflecting on My Journey
Looking back, I am grateful for the path I chose. My journey into makeup and spray tanning has been fulfilling and rewarding. Living in San Antonio, a city vibrant with culture and diversity, has provided me with endless inspiration and opportunities.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Having a small business is not always a walk in the park. i have stayed persistent to my goals and dreams and I have overcome a lot of obstacles and learned a lot as well. I continue to learn valuable information every day. It comes with the territory of being a small business owner.

As of 8 years ago, my husband Scott and I were “sucked” into the world of bodybuilding. We do this full time. We spray tan, do makeup and hairstyling for athletes at bodybuilding events across the USA. We specialize in bodybuilding competition spray tanning, What sets us apart from others is that we are a 1 stop shop for bodybuilding events. We specialize in training for competition spray tanning and bodybuilding competition makeup application. I am proud we are a successful,small business and we are a couple doing this.
