Rising Stars: Meet La’Rhonda Lane of San Antonio

Today we’d like to introduce you to La’Rhonda Lane

Hi La’Rhonda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is La’Rhonda, but I go by Lanai as my stage name, pronounced Lonnie (after my big brother who passed away when I was 15). I’m from Chicago and I’ve been singing since I was 5 years old, my first song I sung being We Belong Together by Mariah Carey. I always sung throughout my childhood, in high school, and while serving in the Marine Corp with my singing roots in gospel music and inspiration from Beyoncé, Chaka Khan, Minnie Riperton, the Clark Sisters, and Jasmine Sullivan. Once I left the military, I moved to San Antonio and began singing at open mics, such as Coffee in Color and New Soul Jam Sessions, as a start. In an effort to throw myself out there, I began singing at The Moons Daughter with DJ Mars in 2022 until 2023. Gaining an audience and ears, I opened up for Juvenile and Tweet at the Alamofest with EBO in 2023. Shortly after, I released my first E.P., 11. 12, on December 4, 2024, which features my hit song, Lock Screen Love that is already in rotation on the radio and is dedicated to my little brother who committed suicide November 12, 2023.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Throughout my life, I had to learn how to prioritize my talent because growing up I was told to not focus on my singing and just focus on school which wasn’t bad advice, but I struggle with anxiety and confidence due to the lack of support of it as a kid, so I always thought I was a good singer not a GREAT singer. But with help from friends I’ve made here and just throwing myself out into San Antonio’s music scene, I was able to move past that insecurity.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I believe what sets me apart from others is my mentality and standards. I have high standards when it comes to my voice. I pride myself on being a perfectionist and working on my craft day in and day out. I want to give the Lon Dons a wonderful experience, so I like to do things that connect them to me.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I am an RnB recording artist and dancer. I perform live at parties, modeling events, and festivals. I am also a psychology student at UTSA as well as a proud finer woman of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
