Today we’d like to introduce you to South Texas Chili Peppers
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hello, we are the South Texas Chili Peppers (STXCP), and we tribute the funkiest band in the world, the Red Hot Chili Peppers (RHCP)! The best way to get to know us is at one of our live performances. Our energy is unmatched and these songs we get to play are so groovy! We have several shows booked in the greater San Antonio area throughout 2025. Follow our social media platforms for up to date information.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The music biz is a wild ride. STXCP has been through multiple line-up changes since our founding in Summer of 2023. Bass poTaters is the only original member, and his bass playing is the bedrock of the South Texas Chili Peppers. Hector is the lead singer & Jazz is the guitar player, both of which entered the band in May 2024. Our drummer, Jim, joined us just a few weeks ago. The line-up feels stable and sounds better than ever. We are stoked to bring the heat to every stage we light up! Stay tuned for more.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We want our fellow RHCP fans to know how much we appreciate their support, and how hard we work to pay proper tribute to the funkmasters. We practice our timing and specific fills on our instruments, and we pay a lot of attention to the vocal harmonies. It is a blast working this hard on a project this fun! We pour it all out at our shows, don’t miss out on the experience.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
South Texas Chili Peppers are down to earth musicians, so our network is our friends and family. We gather for field trips at local shows to support local business and the other great bands of South Texas. We film a lot of bands and try to help them grow by showcasing them on our social media platforms (no charge, of course). It’s a ton of fun meeting the other rockers, funksters, and punksters of the scene!
(Jim, STXCP drummer) I recently moved to San Antonio, so networking was important to me. Moving to a new town can feel isolating, but building a strong network through local music scenes, open mic nights, and online musician groups can quickly connect you with the right people. Local musicians Johnathan Kruse and Kimberly Wright were a big help to me. Finding a mentor—whether it’s a seasoned local musician or someone with industry experience—can provide invaluable guidance on navigating the scene, landing gigs, and growing as an artist. Jeff Gonzalez is a local drummer I met who I thought was amazingly talented, so I sought him out for coaching and mentorship, and he’s been great.
