Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Kurz
Hi Kevin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began playing instruments at 10 years old, starting with piano and alto saxophone, then guitar and trombone. I played in concert and jazz bands throughout school, but also a rock band with my best friends. Long live Transverse Road! We actually got to play one of my best friends’ weddings over a decade ago as sort of a reunion, it was awesome. I continued to play music as a solo artist in New York City, Connecticut, and Los Angeles, but I didn’t pursue acting and modeling until I moved to Austin at the end of 2021. I had always felt the desire and strong pull to try it, but fear and lack of confidence kept me away from the stage. At the push from my fiance, I signed with my first agency at the young age of 39, and never looked back. Since I’ve always been a performer, I felt very at ease on set, and quickly learned that this was my passion to pursue full-time. I recognized how each day on set provides a new and unique experience, a chance to learn and grow, and a chance to connect with other artists. Also, everyone on set wants to be there, unlike some of my previous corporate jobs behind a desk. As of 2025, I’ve performed in over a dozen short-films, two features that are streaming, and two TV pilot episodes. I have become a full-time content creator for brands including Warby Parker, hims, Casper, and Athletic Greens. For modeling, I have worked campaigns for Dell, Orange Theory, and Roka Eyewear. My dream is to pursue the arts full time, as I build a personal training business on the side!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For some, life can be a straight linear line or zig-zag, for me, it’s been a labyrinth, and it’s taken me two decades to become self-aware and fully accept where I am currently at in my personal and professional journey. I really do love starting this adventure in my 40’s, it’s brought true radical acceptance, maturity, wisdom, and love into all that I do. I used to get very disappointed, shameful, and embarrassed with myself at how little progress I made professionally, but, I’ve chosen to pursue something I truly enjoy, and that can’t be taken away, nor will I ever stop. I’ve learned that trusting your gut instincts is more important than listening to others and society. It’s your life, not theirs.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Over the last two years, I’ve evolved into a full-time content creator, working directly with brands including Warby Parker, Quicken Loans, hims, and Casper. It helps me become more refined as an artist whether it’s writing scripts, being on camera as the model or spokesperson, and also I’ve become proficient with editing. I bring charisma and high-energy into all of my content, whether that be filming at home or set, or performing music on a stage. When describing my acting style, I have ability to portray intense and complex characters akin to Michael Keaton, and have the likability and charisma of Matthew McConaughey. I am proud to have a later start in life, but feel very aligned with what I am doing.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I was living in Los Angeles during Covid, and had lost my full-time sales job a few months before the pandemic started. It was a very challenging few years. I couldn’t perform music anywhere, nor could I find a new job. I’ve been a personal trainer for over a decade so I developed online courses for senior citizens, but was unable to get traction in marketing to sell the courses. At the end of 2021, my fiance and I decided it was time for a change, and we packed our bags for Austin. It was a time of learning, for many I’m sure. I guess one thing I took away was how important it is to have financial security because we have no control over external events that can completely eliminate all of our income.
