Exploring Life & Business with Jessica Crossland of Crossland Counseling PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Crossland

Hi Jessica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I didn’t always know I wanted to be a therapist, but losing my mom as a teenager changed everything. A counselor helped me through that time, and I saw firsthand how powerful therapy could be.

I’ve worked in private practice, inpatient, IOP, and emergency response counseling, and I kept seeing the same problem—big companies prioritizing profit over people. The mental health field was already behind, and COVID made it worse. That’s why I started Crossland Counseling PLLC—to create a space where therapy is real, accessible, and effective.

I specialize in working with adults in their 20s and 30s who feel lost or stuck. I’m not the smile-and-nod therapist—I roll up my sleeves, get real, and help clients make real changes. I love the “Oh, I never thought about it that way” moments and seeing people finally step into a life that feels right for them.

Therapy isn’t about me “fixing” anyone—I can’t. But I can help people change themselves, and that’s why I do this work.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road! Starting a private practice comes with a lot of challenges—figuring out the business side, building a client base, and wearing about ten different hats at once. But the biggest struggle has been seeing how broken the mental health system is. Too many companies burn out therapists and treat clients like numbers, and that was frustrating to witness.

Personally, I’ve also had to navigate my own doubts—wondering if I was doing enough, if I could really make an impact. But every time I see a client have a breakthrough, it reminds me why I do this. The road hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Crossland Counseling PLLC?
Crossland Counseling PLLC is more than just a therapy practice—it’s about changing the way people see therapy and therapists. Everyone needs an unbiased person in their life to talk to, and I want to break the outdated stereotype of what a therapist should be.

I’m not the cardigan-wearing, “everything is rainbows and butterflies” kind of therapist. I’m real—honest, direct, and compassionate. I believe therapy should feel like a conversation, not a clinical checklist. My approach is warm but no-nonsense, mixing deep work with humor and practical solutions.

I specialize in working with adults in their 20s and 30s who feel stuck—whether it’s career uncertainty, relationship struggles, or figuring out who they really are. My brand is a reflection of me: a therapist who drinks coffee or tea during morning sessions, stays up late reading about what my clients are going through, and is genuinely invested in their growth.

Too many mental health companies treat therapy like a numbers game, leaving both clients and therapists feeling unseen. I built Crossland Counseling to do things differently—to create a space where therapists are valued, clients feel truly heard, and real, lasting change happens.

At the end of the day, my goal is simple: to help people stop just surviving and start living.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
There haven’t been many great mentors in my journey—instead, I had to figure things out on my own, often by learning firsthand what not to do. But those challenges shaped me and pushed me to create something different, something real.

First, I have to credit my own therapist from when I was a teenager. Losing my mom at a young age was incredibly difficult, and having someone to guide me through that grief changed everything. That experience showed me the power of therapy when it’s done right and planted the seed for my own career.

Then, of course, my clients. They inspire me every single day. Their resilience, their growth, those moments where something clicks and they start to see things differently—that is why I do this work.

And finally, my biggest supporters—my sister, Savana, and my boyfriend, Mustafa. They’re the ones I lean on after a heavy day of sessions, the ones who have encouraged me, pushed me, and believed in me, even when I doubted myself. Starting my own practice wasn’t easy, but having them in my corner made all the difference.

This journey has been anything but smooth, but I wouldn’t change it. Every challenge, every tough lesson, every late night spent figuring it out—it all led me here. And for that, I’m grateful.
