Check Out Oscar Zamarron’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oscar Zamarron

Hi Oscar, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2010 I decided to take the passion I had for professional wrestling and turn into a business. I first started The Wrestling Shop inside San Jose Flea Market located in Laredo, Texas. After 4 months I took the opportunity to relocate the shop to a brick and mortar. I then began working on promoting my business by presenting the idea of a shop dedicated to wrestling figures and merchandise to radio stations. Thankfully they gave me the opportunity for air time to introduce the shop in an era when social media was not yet a marketing tool. Promoting the business on the radio station opened the opportunity of being approached by a local news station with a Children’s morning show. I was invited to introduce our store and do a give away of WWE action figures as part of promoting the shop. Business began to pick up and that is when I decided to make the move to San Antonio. The downside of relocating ment having to start back at a flea market. I was once again running my small shop at Trader’s Village. After months of building new customers we were able to once again have a brick and mortar store. As the the business began to grow and more people were introduced to the Wrestling Shop we then relocated to Rolling Oaks Mall. Wrestling Shop Trademark & Collectibles has been opened inside the mall since October 2020. In late 2021 we purchased a wrestling ring and now hold by weekly wrestling events in our store. With the help of social media we are able to reach new customers at a broad range. We get customers from out of state as well as internationally.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Has it been a smooth road? No, specially when you’re trying to convince people to believe in an idea that’s never been done before. One of the stand out moments of this journey was being enthusiastic , energetic, exited all rolled into one to bringing this idea to life and having the people you love the most say “ It’s impossible, go get a real job.” Friends saying “aren’t you a little bit too old to play with action figures?” I had to not let that discourage me or take it personally. I realized and understood that vision was placed to me a not anyone else. Therefore, i knew it was my duty to bring it to life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are a day to day operation for products that is dedicated to professional wrestling. We are known for housing some of the rarest merchandise and producing by weekly wrestling events. I am proud to keep the business moving forward. What sets us apart from others is that we now have acquired a wrestling ring inside our store that allows us to integrate live professional wrestling shows as well as selling wrestling collectibles.

Any big plans?
The plan is to continue to grow and some time in the near future be able to open a second location.
