For over a decade, I worked in the tanning industry, spending 12 years in a salons perfecting my craft and falling in love with the beauty industry. I always knew I wanted to help people feel their best, but life took me on a different path when I became a stay-at-home mom. For years, I poured my heart into my daughter, cherishing every milestone. But like so many moms, I slowly started to lose a piece of myself.
My body wasn’t what it used to be college Kristy, newlywed Kristy, and pre-baby Kristy all felt like a distant version of me. Postpartum changed me in ways I didn’t expect, and while I was incredibly grateful for the season I was in, I knew I had put myself on the back burner.
Then after COVID, my husband and I took a trip. It was the first time we had traveled in a long time, and as we sat there together, I looked at him and said, This isn’t us. We don’t look or feel like ourselves, That moment hit me hard. We had spent so much time taking care of everything else in life, but we had stopped taking care of us.
That trip changed everything. We started prioritizing our health and self-care, and Bare It All Tan was born. I knew I wanted to create something special, something that made people feel confident and empowered in their own skin.
I started small. A tent, a basic machine, minimal products, but a lot of passion. I poured myself into learning, growing, and building something I could be proud of. And now, stepping into 2025, I can hardly believe how far this dream has come.
Bare It All Tan has evolved into something more than I ever imagined a fully revamped luxury studio designed with every detail in mind. From a brand new extraction booth ensuring the highest air quality to an elevated experience that reflects the heart and soul I’ve poured into this business, it’s truly become the space I always dreamed of creating.
This journey has been deeply personal one of growth, resilience, and rediscovering myself. And now, I get to share that with every person who walks through the doors. Bare It All Tan isn’t just about a tan, it’s about confidence, self-care, and feeling like the best version of YOU.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I started Bare It All Tan, I wasn’t just building a business. I was taking a chance on myself. After years as a stay-at-home mom, stepping into the world of entrepreneurship was both thrilling and terrifying. I has a vision, a deep passion for beauty and confidence, but no roadmap on how to turn it into a thriving business. What I did have, however, was determination.
Unlike many startups backed by investors or financial support, I was my own sole investor. Every dollar that went into Bare It All Tan came from me. There was no safety net, no guaranteed success, just a dream I was determined to make a reality. In those early days, my challenges were many.
One of the biggest hurdles was marketing. When I was in college, social media wasn’t a part of any marking curriculum, yet here I was trying to build a business in a world where platforms like Instagram and TikTok were everything. I couldn’t afford to hire a social media manager or pay for ads, so I had to teach myself. I spent long days and late nights studying algorithms, testing content, and figuring out how to get my business in front of the right people.
And it wasn’t just marketing. To succeed, I had to master every aspect of running a business branding, customer service, financial management, and of course, perfecting my craft as a spray tan artist. I wasn’t just the face of the business; I was the one behind every decision, every post, every appointment.
There were moments of frustration, exhaustion, and self-doubt. But looking back those obstacles shaped me into the businesswoman I am today. I now have skills I never imagined I would need. I have an even deeper respect for influencers and social media professionals who build brands through digital storytelling because I know firsthand the work that goes into it.
More than anything, I’ve learned that resilience is the foundation of success. Bare It All Tan didn’t grow because of luck, it grew because I refused to give up. And now, as I look around at the business I’ve built, I can confidently say that taking a chance on myself was the best decision I ever made.
