Hidden Gems: Meet Amanda Frank of UpLift Physical Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Frank

Hi Amanda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my career as a physical therapist in the Army, graduating from the Army Baylor Doctor of Physical Therapy program. My focus was orthopedics and sports rehab, helping soldiers recover from back, hip, and knee injuries. After six years on active duty, I transitioned out when I was pregnant with my first child, Holden.

That’s when everything changed. During delivery, I experienced a birth injury and was diagnosed with pelvic organ prolapse. Suddenly, simple things—like holding my baby, babywearing, or even walking for more than a few minutes—became painful and overwhelming. When I asked my mom about it, she chalked it up to the “price” of having a baby. When I turned to my OBGYN for help, I was told to just “give it more time.” But I knew there had to be more support out there, so I kept advocating for myself until I finally found a pelvic floor PT. That experience was life-changing. With treatment, I got back to lifting, jumping, and moving without limitations.

Fast forward to my second pregnancy—we had just moved to San Antonio, and I was 36 weeks pregnant with my daughter. After giving birth, I started searching for a great pelvic floor therapist in the area and was shocked by how few providers there were in such a large city. That’s when I knew I needed to help fill that gap.

UpLift PT started as a small side hustle in September 2022 with just a handful of patients. But the demand was undeniable. Within months, I hired my first therapist, then another, then another. We quickly outgrew our 500 sq ft space and moved into a 1,700 sq ft clinic. And the momentum hasn’t stopped! Today, we’ve grown to a team of six incredible therapists, backed by an amazing admin team. Just last year, in 2024, we saw nearly 3,000 visits and welcomed over 400 new patients. Seeing how many people are seeking the care they deserve—and knowing we get to be part of that journey—has been the most rewarding part of this entire experience.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growth never comes without challenges, and UpLift has had its fair share. One of the biggest hurdles was starting from scratch in a new city. When I opened, we had no established connections in San Antonio, so a huge part of my time went into building relationships and earning trust in the community. It wasn’t easy, but I’m incredibly thankful for how welcoming the fitness and birth communities have been.

Another major challenge? Growing—fast. Going from a solo practice to a team of six therapists in just over two years has been both exciting and overwhelming. Every stage of growth has pushed me to reevaluate, pivot, and learn on the fly. And, of course, leading a team comes with a whole new set of challenges. In the beginning, I wondered, “Am I a good enough PT to help these women?” Now, it’s, “Am I a good enough leader to support my team so they can help these clients?” Imposter syndrome is real, but I’ve learned that doubt usually means you care.

Oh, and on a funny note—one struggle we didn’t quite anticipate? Just keeping everyone healthy! With a clinic full of PTs who are also moms, we’ve basically accepted that cold and flu season is an annual battle. Between treating patients, running a business, and swapping daycare germs, we joke that hand sanitizer might be our most-used piece of clinic equipment.

Despite all the challenges, we wouldn’t trade this journey for anything. Every obstacle has taught us something, and every stage of growth has reinforced why we do what we do. We’re beyond grateful for the team we’ve built, the patients who trust us, and the chance to make a real impact in this community.
