Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine Crum and Victoria Perez
Hi Catherine and Victoria, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Victoria Perez and I, Catherine Crum, met in middle school, and even at a young age, we dreamed of owning a business together. Victoria always had a passion for baking cookies, while I loved decorating cakes. After earning our degrees in marketing and working corporate jobs, we realized that path wasn’t where our true passion lay.
We started baking cakes from home, and within a year, the demand grew so much that we needed a storefront. We designed the entire space ourselves, and seeing how far we’ve come already is something we’re incredibly proud of.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
From the very beginning—and still today—we’ve faced countless lessons along the way. To say this journey has been easy would be far from the truth. Starting a business in our mid-20s has come with its challenges, but one thing about Victoria and I is that we are incredibly resilient. No matter the obstacles, we face them head-on and overcome every mountain that stands in our way.
As you know, we’re big fans of Buttercream Bakery. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Buttercream Bakery, we specialize in made-from-scratch cupcakes, cookies, muffins, cinnamon rolls, and, most importantly, custom cakes. Our custom cakes are crafted with precision and creativity, ensuring each one is as unique as the occasion it celebrates. In addition to our baked goods, we offer a variety of drinks, including matcha, coffee, chai, and hot chocolate, making our bakery the perfect place to enjoy a treat with a delicious drink.
We’re excited to introduce our Decorating & Sip sessions starting at the end of February! These are fun, relaxed experiences where you can decorate a cake with full creative freedom while enjoying your favorite drink—just bring your own bottle. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a unique night out, our sessions are the perfect way to unleash your creativity and enjoy a sweet treat!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
We were both raised in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, a small town with a close-knit feel. Moving to San Antonio has been an exciting change, offering endless activities and experiences. While we don’t have our families here, the community has welcomed us with open arms, making it feel like home.
