Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlie Scott.
Hi Ashlie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My love for thinking outside the box and mixing art with functionality was noticed early on. I’ve always been a creative, but a lot of people ask me how I got started tattooing. I give most of the credit to my older brother. When we were about 14 years old, he made a homemade tattoo machine with a race car motor, some fishing wire, and the barrel of a ball point pen (Sorry Dad if you’re reading this)! We used regular pen ink to tattoo ourselves and four of our cousins, who shall remain unnamed.. Now, I have one tiny dot on my back, the last remanent of my first matching tattoo, a smiley face!
About 4 years later, I received a wasp tattoo machine. I used it for practicing on my friends and family until I met a tattoo artist named AJ. He and his family were in a tough spot, so we invited them to stay with us while he got back on his feet. Instantly I was intrigued with his art and picked his brain for all the information I could get about tattooing! I became great friends with him and his wife. One day he airbrushed my name onto my tattoo storage box and I felt a sense of ownership and pride in the art that I could create. He was a huge motivator for me. I began making stencils, learning how to take apart my machine and put it back together, how to tattoo different styles, and all the apprentice things.
Soon after, I ventured out on my own and began working in a shop, taking my own clients.
I do have two beautiful children, and the tattoo industry can be a bit of up and down. During the summer people tend to steer away from tattoos so they can keep going outside, to the beaches, pools, and lakes. You of course, cannot enjoy those as much with fresh ink! So, I went back to school for accounting (which I LOVE) and started pursuing careers that gave me the income I needed, the hours, and the time to spend with my children. The only problem was, I couldn’t stop thinking about tattoos!
That’s what got me here! I discovered a way to have the best of both worlds! I currently work for the Special Olympics of Texas as my full time job, and offer tattoos for Weddings, limiting my availability to still have time with my family.
I absolutely love being able to be a part of such a special day and share in the love and memories! I’m looking forward to what 2025 and all the upcoming years have to offer us in this venture!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There’s been several instances that have presented obstacles, but anyone that knows me, knows that I’m a very tenacious and driven person.
I’ve overcame very difficult times as a single mom, working full time, going to school full time and being presented with several disadvantages, but I’m not the kind of person who focuses on how much is on my plate, as much as I focus on what to eat first. Failure has never been option for me and I think that has really attributed to what I’ve achieved.
It has definitely been an experience learning the ins and outs of the proper steps to take in an industry that is still working to gain its creditability. There’s still a stigma around tattooing itself and those who get tattoos or what the art itself represents.
I hope to bring a perspective of beauty and contentment to the art, and to show others that tattooing is an expression of self love.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Happily Ever Inked is a mobile tattoo company that specializes in live Wedding Tattoo services.
Only two things last forever, love and tattoos! So, I help wedding couples give their guests a unique forever keepsake tattoo to commemorate their love and the day!
I set up a meeting with wedding couples and they tell me about how they met, things they like to do together, and if they have any ideas of art pieces they would like to include for their big day!
I then create custom flash art, they approve it, and I show up to their wedding with their art for their family and friends to select their very own forever keepsake tattoo!
A lot of people are under the impression that wedding tattoos mean ring tattoos or wedding bells, but I create custom flash art of whatever ideas they may have! I’ve had the pleasure of creating Star Wars themed, Taylor Swift themed, Western themed, and so many more! The most unique art that I’ve been asked to create so far has been two raccoons cheers-ing with “coors latte” beer can! It’s a very fun, personal, and unforgettable experience!
Happily Ever Inked has really been proven to be set apart from simply having the wedding couples personal tattoo artist in several ways!
We are certified and insured! We pride ourselves in providing a seamless experience to each wedding that we attend.
We come highly recommended by each venue, wedding couple, and coordinator that has partnered with us. We are featured on the leading wedding websites, Wedding Wire and The Knot with outstanding reviews! We are also proud members of Wed Society San Antonio!
We always come with an aesthetic set up that matches the wedding colors that gives guests an additional photo op!
We also offer a tattoo camper that has just debuted in January of 2025 and look forward to the special touch that this space will give to our weddings! A slide show of the wedding couple’s photos can be played as guests receive their new tattoos, a very special way to keep the experience as personal as possible.
Happily Ever Inked has done our best to create a beautiful, unique, fun, and unforgettable experience from beginning to end!
How do you think about luck?
Everyone that knows me, know that I am very much a go getter! I am a firm believer that what is meant to be, will be.
I feel that my destiny is shaped by my tenacity and the passion that drives me. The bits of luck that I receive are noticed, appreciated, and used as motivation just as much as the “unlucky” times.
I do feel very fortunate that I have crossed paths with my fiancé, aka my assistant, to make each move that I make possible. He is truly a rock for me and our family. I might be the master mind behind Happily Ever Inked, but there’s absolutely no way that we could be as successful as we have been without him!
If there’s any unexplained bit of luck that I have received in my lifetime, it was meeting him and being able to venture on this path with him!
