Today we’d like to introduce you to Kalie Grace Bohnenberger
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up I’ve always had a very dry and flaky scalp, and no matter what I did it never got better. All throughout beauty school I was trying to find something that helped but nothing did the job. Then finally at the first salon I worked at, they had a product line that I absolutely loved and was dedicated towards scalp health. I started doing mini treatments on my client when they would come in for their regular hair services. They loved it and it was helping their scalp get better. The brand that we used, then came out with a whole system that was dedicated towards scalp treatments. I immediately knew that this is something that I was interested in and that I wanted to provide for my clients however, the salon that I was at was structured in more of an old-school salon style, back to back clients, double booking, see as many people as you can, time is money mindset, so they didn’t see the need to bring on these products and services. About a year or so later I finally left that salon to go work in a booth rental salon where I could work for myself. I knew the first thing that I wanted to do was go ahead and get that scalp treatment line that I had been thinking about since the day they came and showed us the products. So I started offering scalp treatments, and they absolutely took off! They became my number one service. I was doing the treatments in a regular salon setting so there were other stylists and clients around me so it wasn’t as relaxing as I knew it could be. I knew that I needed my own suite somewhere to be more private, and more intimate with my clients to have the ultimate relaxation experience. A year later at the same salon that I’m at now, a room suite upstairs became available. The owners of my current Salon, Willow and Ivy Salon and Spa, have always been very supportive with my dreams and what I want to offer to people, so they offered me the room that became available and I took it right away! I immediately started getting stuff to put my room together and I was able to pull it together in two very short weeks. Now it’s my own personal oasis of pure relaxation. I haven’t even been open a month yet and my books are fully booked, and more and more people are making appointments with me! That’s where I’m at today!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey fortunately has been fairly smooth, my biggest struggle came at my first salon. When I tried explaining that the scalp treatments and headspa experiences were going to be the next big thing to the owners, they just didn’t see it fitting into their structure. But as soon as I went out on my own it was smooth sailing!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a proud hairstylist and clinical trichologist. As a trichologist I specialize in hair loss, scalp disorders, and scalp health in general. I’m most known for my relaxing scalp revival treatments. I’m most proud of my dedication to my craft and the lengths I’m willing to go for my clients and business. What sets me apart from others is that I’ve taken the time to further my education and become a certified clinical trichologist, thus having more knowledge about the structure of the hair and scalp. I focus on creating a relaxing treatment that will also be beneficial in the long run.
What matters most to you?
What matters to me most is creating the ultimate client experience. Personalizing everything that goes on during the treatment, such as the music that’s playing, the scent that’s in the room, or having your favorite tea waiting for you when you arrive. There’s nothing better than building that amazing relationship or trust and comfort with your clients. It’s the small things that you do that people will remember. Being able to have actual benefits and results for clients hair and scalp will always be the most rewarding
